Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights Anton Refalo announced the opening of applications for a financial scheme and measures aimed at Maltese and Gozitan beekeepers.

This scheme is co-financed by European and national funds. Minister Refalo stressed that, “The Government remains committed to strengthening the beekeeping sector as an essential part of Maltese agriculture and the environment. These funds are not only an investment in quality honey, but also in our ecosystem and the biodiversity on which our rural life depends.”

The aim of this scheme is to continue to strengthen the quality of Maltese honey and is also evidence of the Government’s commitment to continue supporting the beekeeping sector through concrete means. This will be done through actions that facilitate information and technical knowledge, disease control, and support for production methods and quality control. The measures will help beekeepers reduce certain costs and improve the commercial potential of their products. In addition, this sector plays an important ecological role, by offering pollination services to wild plants as well as to farmers.

Applications can be submitted between 28 July and 14 August 2025 at the Agriculture and Rural Payments Agency (ARPA) at Pitkali Markets, or at the Gozo Office at the Government Experimental Farm. The guidelines have already been sent to registered beekeepers and their associations. During this process, beekeepers can obtain assistance from ARPA.
