Professor Edward Scicluna will resume his duties as Governor of the Central Bank of Malta and member of the Governing Council of the European Central Bank following a formal request made to Prime Minister Robert Abela and Minister for Finance Clyde Caruana.
Prime Minister Robert Abela consulted with the European Central Bank which, as an independent institution, found no objection to Professor Scicluna’s request. Prime Minister Abela this morning updated the Cabinet of Ministers on these developments. Professor Edward Scicluna’s request was favourably received.
The Cabinet of Ministers thanked Deputy Governor Alexander Demarco who assumed the role of Acting Governor of the Central Bank of Malta in recent months. The Cabinet of Ministers wishes Professor Edward Scicluna well in continuing to perform his service with loyalty and commitment, as he has always done in every position entrusted to him in the interest of the country.
