Malta Tourism Authority hosts official press conference to announce the 2025 VisitMalta Weekender at Stamford Bridge

The Malta Tourism Authority, through its promotional arm VisitMalta, is proud to have hosted an official press conference announcing the upcoming 2025 VisitMalta Weekender, a prestigious pre-season football tournament to be held at Stamford Bridge this August. This exciting international collaboration will see football giants Chelsea FC, AC Milan, and Bayer Leverkusen compete in a two-day showcase of elite European football.

The press conference, held in Malta, welcomed three legendary Chelsea Football Club alumni – Roberto Di Matteo, Carlo Cudicini, and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink – who joined Carlo Micallef, CEO of the Malta Tourism Authority, to present the initiative. The former players shared heartfelt reflections on their time with Chelsea and their positive experiences visiting Malta, underscoring the deepening relationship between the Maltese Islands and global football audiences.

Following the announcement, local Chelsea supporters were given the opportunity to meet the club legends, take photos, and have memorabilia signed, creating memorable moments for Maltese fans.

Taking place on Friday 8th August and Sunday 10th August 2025, the VisitMalta Weekender will see Chelsea face Bayer Leverkusen in the opening fixture, followed by a high-profile clash with AC Milan two days later. The event forms part of Chelsea’s final preparations ahead of the 2025/26 season and follows their participation in this summer’s FIFA Club World Cup.

Carlo Micallef, Chief Executive Officer of the MTA commented saying “This collaboration underscores the Malta Tourism Authority’s continued commitment to strategic partnerships that promote the Maltese Islands to global audiences through premier sporting events.”

Ticketing information for the VisitMalta Cup will be announced in the coming weeks.
