By the end of June, the Housing Authority will distribute 6970 payments to first-time buyers

The Minister for Social and Affordable Housing Roderick Galdes addressed a press conference in which he explained how during this month more beneficiaries will be receiving their payments from the first-time buyers scheme.

This scheme, managed by the Housing Authority, is leaving one thousand euros per year for ten years in the pockets of beneficiaries, so that in total the beneficiaries will have benefited from ten thousand euros. The minister continued to explain that by the end of this month, the Housing Authority will have passed 6970 payments and claimed that this was possible thanks to an investment of more than 6 and a half million euros.

During the conference, it was explained how in recent months anyone who bought their first property in 2024 has been encouraged to apply for this scheme in order to receive the payment by this month. Those who applied late will still be receiving their payment, but a little later until their application is processed.

“In order to ensure that everyone has a fair opportunity to apply for this scheme, we will give a last chance to those few individuals who bought their first property in 2024 and have not yet applied, so that they can do so by the end of July 2025 and benefit from the first thousand euros of this scheme,” said Minister Roderick Galdes.

The minister spoke about the difference that this scheme is making in the lives of those who are buying their first property. “Through this investment, we are investing in the lives of our people, including many young people who are buying their first residence. Therefore, through this scheme we are investing in the future of our young people to ensure that everyone has the same opportunities.”

The minister concluded by stating that the Housing Authority’s schemes are helping people become homeowners and are continuing to strengthen the purchasing power of Maltese and Gozitan families. Housing Authority Chief Executive Matthew Zerafa said: “We are supporting first-time buyers in a holistic way, not only through financial assistance but also through the first home.mt portal which guides families step by step on this important journey.”
