Around 35,000 pensioners are benefiting from the implementation of four other measures in Budget 2025. These include adjustments made to pensions of persons born before 1962 whose current salary, if they were still working, exceeds the revised Maximum Pensionable Income. Other adjustments were made to widows’ and service pensions.
These details were announced during a press conference by the Minister for Social Policy and Children’s Rights, Michael Falzon, together with Permanent Secretary Mark Musù.
Minister Michael Falzon expressed his satisfaction with the fact that around 20,000 pensioners, including around 3,000 widows, benefited from the adjustment for persons born before 1962. He explained that this adjustment applies to those pensioners born before 1962 and who, if they were still working, would have a salary exceeding the Maximum Pensionable Income of €23,500. (until 2023 it was still €20,400 ) .
“Once again we are showing how this Government always keeps its word when addressing anomalies created by others. Over the years, we could have stood back and blamed previous administrations. However, we have done the complete opposite and instead addressed situations that affect dozens of families,” stated Minister Michael Falzon.
