Launch of TM Roads – a digital platform with effective coordination in administrative work related to infrastructure works

Transport Minister Chris Bonett

At a press conference, the Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works, Chris Bonett, officially launched TM Roads, a digital platform that will lead to effective coordination and a transparent and efficient process in administrative work related to road and infrastructure works.

To date, the existing system for a person to apply for infrastructural interventions involved a process that was complicated, bureaucratic and could hinder coordination between the entities concerned. Therefore, TM Roads will bring together all the entities involved in road works and at the same time will inform the public about the permits and any communication that is made to improve the much-needed coordination. In this way, the inconvenience for the resident will be drastically reduced.

The project was carried out in collaboration with Transport Research Laboratory, a renowned company in the United Kingdom that has worked with many countries around the world and which will bring with it its vast experience and more importantly a change in mentality regarding how we look at mobility.

Minister Chris Bonett stressed that this platform is, “An important step in a wider chain of solutions that we are reaching to achieve the vision that we have laid out together through Reshaping Our Mobility. As I said when we launched our vision, there is a big difference between making a plan on paper and implementing it. I believe that this initiative and all those that we have launched over the past few months demonstrate the seriousness and diligence of this government to offer the concrete solutions that citizens rightly expect from us politicians”.

Transport Malta’s Chief Executive Officer, Kurt Farrugia, stated that, “Through TM Roads, we will see that communication between the public and Transport Malta improves. People will be able to log in and register their interest to be notified when works are being carried out near their home or workplace. I believe that if those who are informed can plan much better.”

TM Roads will serve as a model of coordinated and proactive governance that will reduce bureaucracy while becoming more efficient.
