The Public Service Expo served as a platform to host another meeting of the Youth Advisory Forum. This is in contrast to the established practice where the meetings of this forum are held at the Auberge de Castille.
In his address at the beginning of this meeting, Prime Minister Robert Abela expressed his satisfaction with the fact that this Forum has worked so successfully in recent months where not only were serious and technical discussions held on a number of important topics for the country, driven by the youth themselves, but also those discussions led to the formulation of a national policy on important matters.
“The discussion with you that we had on voluntary assisted euthanasia, as you know, led to the eventual product that was to be brought before the Cabinet, amendments were made to it, and it is right that they were made and the format that we used that day, the theme was dealt with before the Youth Advisory Forum even before it went before the Cabinet of Ministers,” the Prime Minister said as he remarked that he is looking forward to not only maintaining this format but even strengthening it.”
Meanwhile, regarding the central theme of this meeting, namely the Malta 2050 Vision, Prime Minister Robert Abela stated that this too was born from discussions that as a country we should have targeted policies under one roof and that look ahead over the long term.
“It is a vision of the people and for it to be a vision of one country and of separate and successive legislatures there must necessarily be the contribution of the people and here too today we are here to hear your views on the subject and I look forward to having a free and frank discussion as we always have,” concluded the Prime Minister.
