Operation linked to drug Importation at the Malta Freeport lead to the discovery of 35kg of suspected cocaine worth €2 million thought to be intended for the local market.
Early Wednesday morning, police stopped a vehicle leaving the Malta Freeport and a search revealed 7kg of suspected cocaine. Further searches at the Freeport led to the discovery of the remaining quantity of drugs.
The vehicle’s driver, a man who works at the Freeport, was arrested in connection with the find. Preliminary investigations indicate that the man allegedly hid the drugs at the site with the intention of selling them on the street.
A Magisterial Inquiry has been appointed while police investigations are still ongoing.
The man is expected to be arraigned in court later today.
