Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism Ian Borg met with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the UAE Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, in Abu Dhabi, ahead of next week’s inaugural session of the Malta-UAE Joint Commission.

The two Deputy Prime Ministers discussed the importance of the Joint Commission for advancing new collaborations in several areas where the two countries have already laid the groundwork for strong relations in recent years, particularly healthcare, research and innovation, AI, climate action, the maritime industry, tourism and culture.

The first session of the Joint Commission will be co-chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Borg and UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation Reem Al Hashimy, as government officials from the two countries will engage in technical talks on new collaborations for coming years.

Deputy Prime Minister Borg and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah bin Zayed also discussed EU-Gulf and EU-UAE relations, as well as ongoing developments in the Middle East, North Africa and sub-Saharan Africa.
