Hamrun Spartans moved second, two points behind leaders Marsaxlokk as they defeated rivals Birkirkara 1-0 in a match from the 360Sports Malta Premier Closing Round Top 6 at the National Stadium on Saturday.
This second successive defeat leaves Birkirkara in third place, on level points with Mosta and Floriana, one point behind the Spartans but the Greens have a game in hand.
Both teams had chances thanks to which they could have taken the lead during the first half but the best fell at the feet of Joseph Mbong who was unlucky to hit the crossbar on 23 minutes.
Birkirkara had Neil Micallef sent off on 64 minutes and three minutes later, Roko Prsa scored the all-important goal, beating goalkeeper Giacomo Volpe with a direct freekick from the right.
In added time, Alex Satariano was also sent off for Birkirkara.
