The Civil Protection Department will be providing assistance to the Libyan people in the municipality of Al-Asabaa, where dozens of homes have been engulfed by fires of undetermined origin. In response, Malta is deploying four officials to share their expertise in determining the cause of these fires and safeguarding affected families. This support is being provided through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, which enables our country to extend humanitarian aid—once again demonstrating Malta’s commitment to assisting those in need, as it has done in past emergencies in Greece, Libya, and Turkey, amongst others.
Minister for Home Affairs, Security, and Employment Byron Camilleri stated that through this initiative, the Civil Protection Department is reaffirming its crucial role—not only in assisting and saving lives in Malta but also in offering help and expertise on behalf of the Maltese Government to a nation in need.
Director of the Civil Protection Department Peter Paul Coleiro emphasised that the department’s mission is to assist those in need. He noted that thanks to continuous training and ongoing investment, the department now has the capability and expertise to provide such assistance. He expressed his determination that the efforts of the Maltese officials will help ensure the safety of the affected families.
