In the annual ceremony marking Freedom Day, Prime Minister and Leader of the Labour Parrty Robert Abela recalled the achievements of the Labour over the decades.
“Liberty was not only the removal of foreign military forces from our country. Freedom also meant economic liberation, and it also meant freedom of thought. Freedom of minds from a society that for a long time avoided talking about the needs of its children. And precisely because of this, our country can now dream again, look ahead and choose which direction it wants us to move in.”
Labour he said had ended poverty, had changed the rent laws and closed down the polluting heavy fuel power station.
The Labour government, he said, introduced IVF legislation, strengthened the electricity distribution system and will soon operate a second interconnector.
Looking to the future, Robert Abela told supporters:
“We will be a Government that gives Malta a plan for the next generation. Therefore, in the coming days, we will be announcing the vision we have for our country until 2050. The vision we have for the next twenty-five years, with clear goals that we want to achieve by 2035. This will be a vision that will be based on the beauty and strength of this country. The strength that comes from unity in families. The diligence of our workers. The national heritage. The natural environment. The resilience of our industry.”
