The second Gozo Weekender takes place with the battle for the top places still to be decided.
The early kick-off on Sunday sees current leaders Birkirkara take on Sliema. This game is crucial in the race for the Premier title. A win for B’Kara would strengthen their grip at the top. A draw would leave the door open for Floriana to jump ahead of B’kara, they are only a point behind going into this weekend. Should Sliema pull off a surprise, three points would lift them level with Floriana, depending on the result of Floriana’s match with Hibernians.
Floriana’s opponents are Hibernians, themselves in with a shout of the title. Hibs are two points adrift of Floriana and must win to have any chance of clinching silverware. Easier said than done.
Two other sides that could impact the league standings are Marsaxlokk and Mosta. Both have 16 points, as do Hibs. On paper M’lokk would seem to have the easier match against Melita. On the pitch it could be a different story.
Mosta face a tricky encounter with Zabbar St Patrick. Not an easy game to call.
This Gozo Weekender has all the ingredients for a thrilling run-in to the end of the season.
