President Donald Trump has raised the stakes in the trade war with Canada by announcing he is doubling the tariffs on steel and aluminium from Canada to 50%.
“I have instructed my Secretary of Commerce to add an ADDITIONAL 25% Tariff, to 50%, on all STEEL and ALUMINUM COMING INTO THE UNITED STATES FROM CANADA, ONE OF THE HIGHEST TARIFFING NATIONS ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD,” Trump posted on Truth Social.
Trump is also reported to have posted that the only way for Canada to avoid tariffs is be becoming the 51st state of the US.
