Over 85 local and international fireworks teams for the Malta International Fireworks Festival 2025

More than 85 local and international fireworks teams will be participating in this year’s Malta International Fireworks Festival, between the 22nd and the 30th of April, at the Grand Harbor and in Gozo.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism Ian Borg and the Malta Tourism Authority Chief Executive Officer Carlo Micallef announced the details of this highly anticipated event during a press conference on Saturday morning. Organized by the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA), the annual festival is a spectacular celebration of the Maltese Islands’ rich pyrotechnic heritage, blending tradition, artistry, and entertainment.

The first two nights, with several local and international fireworks teams competing in different categories, will take place at the Grand Harbor on Tuesday, 22nd and Friday, 25th April. The third evening, Saturday, 26 th April, takes the Festival to Nadur, in Gozo, in collaboration with the Gozo Ministry.

On the fourth night, on Wednesday, 30 th April, the Festival returns to the Grand Harbour, as Malta celebrates the 21 st anniversary of its EU membership. This finale will include displays by several fireworks teams, including the Fireworks Association , the winners of last year’s festival, as well as a concluding surprise show, which will illuminate the historic Harbor with a synergy of pyrotechnics and technological innovation .

For the first time, this year the Fireworks Festival will also include the participation of band clubs from several localities, supporting another important pillar of Maltese culture.

Deputy Prime Minister Ian Borg highlighted the festival’s importance in celebrating Malta’s cultural heritage while reaffirming the Maltese Islands as a travel destination of quality, authentic experiences. ” The Malta International Fireworks Festival is a powerful symbol of our national identity, craftsmanship, and dedication to excellence. Events like these play a crucial role in diversifying our tourism product, encouraging cultural tourism and other niche markets, with a calendar of vibrant events and experiences that position Malta as a year-round destination, said Dr Borg.

“The Malta International Fireworks Festival not only offers a spectacular spectacle that attracts thousands of spectators, but also plays a significant role in promoting our country on an international stage. This event seamlessly blends Malta’s rich traditions with innovation, while also contributing to our strategic objective of distributing visitor arrivals more evenly throughout the year. Year after year, the festival continues to expand and enhance its value as a key highlight of Malta’s cultural events calendar,” stated Carlo Micallef, Chief Executive Officer of the Malta Tourism Authority.

The press conference was also addressed by Dr Godfrey Farrugia, President of the Malta Pyrotechnic Association.
