Irish Minister for Justice Jim O’Callaghan TD will visit Malta as part of a programme of visits undertaken by the Irish Cabinet to mark Saint Patrick’s Day across the world.
Minister O’Callaghan will be in Malta for two nights, from the 11th to the 13th of March, at the start of a trip that will also see him visiting Italy and the Holy See.
Whilst in Malta, the Minister will meet with his Ministerial counterparts, Minister Byron Camilleri and Minister Jonathan Attard, as well as taking in an official visit to the head offices of the European Union Agency for Asylum in Marsa.
On the 12th of March, he will also be a distinguished guest at the Embassy of Ireland
in Malta’s annual Saint Patrick’s Day Reception, where he will meet the President of
Malta, H.E. Myriam Spiteri Debono.
Ambassador of Ireland to Malta, H.E. Caroline Whelan said: “We see this as testament
to the warm friendship and strong bilateral relationship between both countries, and are
honoured to be able to host Minister O’Callaghan.”
St Patrick’s Day offers a unique opportunity to promote Ireland’s interests around the
world and to promote Ireland as a place to invest, visit, work or study. This year, 38
representatives of the State will bring Ireland’s message to more than 90 cities in 40
countries.
Jim O’Callaghan has been Ireland’s Minister for Justice since January 2025. He is a
law graduate (BCL) of University College Dublin and attained a Master of Law (LLM)
degree and a Master in Philosophy (M.Phil) degree in Criminology from the University
of Cambridge. He also holds a Barrister-at-Law degree from the King’s Inns and has
been a Senior Counsel since 2008.
