The Lands Authority has transferred a property in Fleur-de-Lys Street, Birkirkara, to the Office of the President to continue supporting the Malta Community Chest Fund (MCCF), to expand its services in the social sector and to be used as part of a pilot project that will help vulnerable people to lead independent lives.
This transfer was formalised through an agreement signed today at San Anton Palace, by the Secretary to the Presidency and the Chief Executive of the Lands Authority. The signing was presided over by the President of Malta, Myriam Spiteri Debono, and the Minister for Lands and the Implementation of the Electoral Programme, Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi.
During the signing of the agreement, Minister Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi stressed that this step demonstrates the Government’s commitment to using public assets in the best possible ways for the benefit of the community. “This agreement is a clear example of how the Government is giving social value to public properties by making them available for initiatives that make a difference in people’s lives. Through this building, the Office of the President will be able to continue supporting the work of the Malta Community Chest Fund in this innovative pilot project that will help those most in need to move towards a more independent life,” said Minister Zrinzo Azzopardi.
President Myriam Spiteri Debono said that the original purpose for which the Malta Community Chest Fund was established has always been to address the needs of the vulnerable. She stressed the importance of the Malta Community Chest Fund expanding and strengthening the services it offers in the social sector. She said that this is the first step in the implementation of this pilot project. The President of Malta thanked the Government for this initiative.
