European Parliament President Roberta Metsola is visiting Israel and Palestine for talks with both sides in effort to keep the current ceasefire active.
Thursday she will meet with the President of the State of Israel, Isaac Herzog
On Friday morning she meets with the Secretary-General of the Executive Committee of the Palestinian Liberation Organisation, Hussein al-Sheikh.
On social media she wrote, “First meetings in Jerusalem. Over the next days I will represent @Europarl_EN in discussions in Israel and the Palestinian territories at a critical moment in time for the Middle East and the world. Europe is ready to step up engagement and do what we can to help the ceasefire-hostages release deal to hold, to provide a path to increased aid and a building block to a sustainable peace”.
