While visiting a number of families in Gozo, Prime Minister Robert Abela inaugurated a social housing project in Rabat Gozo and the regeneration of the Ħawla area. In this area, construction work has been completed on a block of eight social housing apartments that will provide accommodation for eight families.
This project was completed ahead of schedule and was carried out on a land area of 3,750 square meters, of which 330 square meters, or 9% of the existing space, was dedicated to social housing. The remaining space, namely three acres, was regenerated with a playing field, an outdoor gym, a recreational area with water features as well as extensive landscaping. This project also ensured that no trees were lost, in fact, more indigenous trees were planted in this area to give it a more beautiful appearance in a more relaxing environment.

While speaking to a number of families living in the area and who have benefited from these recreational areas, Prime Minister Robert Abela, accompanied by Ministers Clint Camilleri and Roderick Galdes, stated that the Government is once again keeping its promise to Maltese and Gozitan families by continuing to deliver beneficial projects that also elevate the quality of life.
Dr Abela also pointed out that the Government is committed to continuing to deliver projects of this type that complement others that have been completed in recent months, so that more families in need are allocated top-quality social accommodation.
“Last year, 514 families were allocated a place in social housing thanks to the implementation of housing projects such as those in Msida, Qrendi, Żebbuġ, Siġġiewi, Bormla, Kirkop and Luqa. With this project and others that we will be inaugurating in the coming months, we will continue to provide a decent roof over the heads of those in need so that we can continue to keep our word as a Government with a social soul that addresses the needs of the people,” said Prime Minister Robert Abela.
The Prime Minister concluded by saying that the completion of this project also complements the social measures of this year’s Budget which have begun to come into effect, including social investment with another increase in pensions and Children’s Allowance, while workers are benefiting from the biggest tax cut in history. With this tax cut, where the first €1,000 per month is tax-free, almost 18,000 working people will not pay tax.
