Earlier this week, the President of the Malta Football Association together with a small number of Presidents from countries in close relation to the Italian Football Federation (FIGC), were invited to attend the FIGC’s General Assembly in Rome. This elective meeting saw Gabriele Gravina win his third mandate as President of the FIGC.
Among the delegation of officials who attended, aside from Malta through President Bjorn Vassallo, there were also Ukrainian Association of Football President Andriy Shevchenko, Football Association of Montenegro President Dejan Savićević, San Marino Football Federation President Marco Tura, and Albanian Football Federation President Armand Duka. FIFA President Gianni Infantino and UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin were also in attendance.
The visit also included scheduled visits at Capitoline Hill (Il Campidoglio), where the delegation met with the Mayor of Rome, Roberto Gaultieri, as well as His Holiness Pope Francis at the Vatican, through a private audience. The Malta FA President presented a shirt of the Malta National Team to Pope Francis, with the words “Miserando Atque Eligendo”, meaning “Humble But Chosen”, which was the motto that the Pope used when he was still a Bishop.
Through these visits, the Malta FA’s relations at an international level continue to strengthen, enabling further growth both in the field of sports and in institutional relationships.
