The EDU Infrastructure Programme, launched today, represents a €91 million investment aimed at modernizing and maintaining over 100 schools over the next 13 years. The programme allocates €7 million annually to finance eight different projects each year, focusing on various school needs. These projects will integrate energy-efficient systems and sustainable materials to promote environmental responsibility.
Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research, and Innovation Clifton Grima emphasized that this initiative is a key part of the National Strategy for Education, aiming to create a better learning environment for both educators and students. The programme also includes upgrading sports facilities in schools and improving accessibility and outdoor spaces.
Since 2013, €152 million has been invested in educational infrastructure, including significant projects like the €24 million Msida Primary School and the €18 million Gozo educational complex. The initiative is seen as an integral part of transforming education in the country, with ongoing maintenance and renovation efforts, particularly over the summer.
