The Ministry for the Environment, Energy, and Regeneration of the Grand Harbour, together with the Regulator for Energy and Water Services (REWS), launched an online One-Stop Shop to bring together all permit applications required for the installation of large-scale renewable energy systems and those applying for the 20-year feed-in tariff, excluding those applied for through grant schemes.
The digital platform aims to streamline and coordinate the permitting processes of key entities involved in renewable energy systems, including REWS, Enemalta, and ARMS Ltd. By integrating these processes into a single, unified system, the platform will provide a more efficient process.
The details of this initiative were announced by the Minister for the Environment, Energy, and Regeneration of the Grand Harbour, Miriam Dalli, and CEO REWS, Eng. Marjohn Abela.
Minister Miriam Dalli highlighted that “this One-Stop-Shop digital platform marks an important step towards a sustainable future. By streamlining the permitting process for renewable energy systems, we are making it easier for individuals and businesses to contribute to our renewable energy goals. This initiative demonstrates our commitment to reduce our carbon footprint. We are dedicated to creating an efficient and secure system that supports the growth of renewable energy infrastructure”.
REWS CEO Eng. Marjohn Abela said that “the first digital platform was created in 2015, precisely when the role of regulator was established. This first platform collected applications for the installation of photovoltaic panels given through grants. Since then, great developments have been made in technology and the security of digital information. I believe that this digital platform that we are announcing today offers a number of benefits, including that it will ensure an easier and more convenient experience for applicants. Above all, it is a clear demonstration of how much, as a Regulator we are committed to always improving our services”.
The platform offers centralized coordination, managing all RES permit applications through a unified system that integrates the main entities’ processes. Applicants can follow real-time tracking of their application status and secure user authentication through e-ID login.
Applicants can fill out the online applications themselves or authorize RES retailers to submit applications on their behalf. Registered RES retailers can track each application submitted for their clients through the system.
