Prime Minister Robert Abela said the government will continue with energy subsidies despite a warning from Brussels to discontinue them.
Speaking on ONE Radio on Sunday, he said the government will speak with the European Commission to explain the country’s “unique challenges” in the energy sector.
Last week the European Commission recommended that Malta and six other EU member states to be placed on an excessive deficit procedure with the energy subsidy to be phased out by next winter.
