Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico was shot after leaving a government meeting.
He was air-lifted to hospital where his injuries were described as life-threatening.
A 71-year-old man has been arrested.
The shooting happened in the town of Handlova, about 85 miles (136km) from the capital Bratislava, after a meeting at a cultural centre.
