Through an investment of around €1.8 million, regeneration works will be carried out on the square and the zuntier of the Parish Church in Tarxien This was announced by the Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works Chris Bonett in the presence of the Local Council of Tarxien.
The works include the reconstruction and beautification of the square, the pavements of the streets around the square which will be made with lava and porfido surfaces, and steps with hard stones. The reconstruction of the Church parsonage will also be carried out with new paving and repair of the steps of the parsonage. This intervention will provide for a new lighting system that respects the surroundings of the square, restoration of the light poles on the Church parapet and new bases for them, and placement of new furniture street Strengthening work will also be done in the rainwater collection system, changing the drainage system of the Church area, and an underground path for telecommunication services and the electricity distribution.
Minister Bonett stressed that it is important that the infrastructure of the areas where the community gathers should be given the necessary importance in terms of beautification and maintenance, to provide a suitable space for the residents and everyone who visits it the locality. Therefore the Minister showed his satisfaction for an initiative of the council and the parish that worked together to invest in the best way in Tarxien.
“These types of projects continue to emphasize how much this Government listens to the people’s request and implements in the best possible way. As we have seen in several other localities such as the regeneration of Pjazza tal-Gudja and Rabat, this Government is working to return open spaces to the people with better infrastructure which consequently ensures a quality of life better for the people,” concluded Minister Bonett.
While thanking the government for this project, the Mayor of Tarxien, Joseph Abela Galea, said that this project will be fulfilling the dream of the people of Tarxien to see their square have a pedestrian zone. and thus they will enjoy more the heart of the village. This project, which is expected to be completed within a year from when the works begin after the adjudication process is concluded, is seeing the involvement of the Archdiocese of Malta and the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage.
