As soon as an extensive restoration and modernization project came to an end at Dar il-Mediterranean for Conferences, Prime Minister Robert Abela said that Valletta will continue to emphasize quality, the same quality that we are seeing in this project. He said this during the inauguration of these works that took a span of years.

The Prime Minister Robert Abela spoke about the importance of preserving the historical heritage of our country, especially in buildings that have great potential in the capital city. He explained that this project is not an isolated one and referred to the restoration in the Palace of the Grand Master and the work in the Co-Cathedral of San Gwann.

He said that these projects are testimony to how much our country can never stop investing, because if it stops investing the country cannot invest in its people. “How nice to have the chance to talk about quality. There were moments where the reality was different,” said the Prime Minister. He said the discussion ten years ago was about how we are going to get the City back on its feet so that businesses start to come to life. He said that today the City has not recovered but is the mecca of both cultural and social activities.

He appealed to the Beltin entities to continue contributing to the development of the City, at the same time as giving consideration to the needs of the residents. “We want a beautiful, clean City, where everyone feels comfortable. We want a living City, a vibrant City. We want a City for everyone,” concluded Dr. Abela.

For his part the Minister for Tourism and Public Cleanliness Clayton Bartolo pointed out how nowadays Dar il Mediterran’s offer for Conferences has expanded greatly. “Apart from being a cultural and tourist asset, today thanks to the leadership we have had in recent years we are seeing the MCC more open to various cultural and commercial sectors throughout the year,” pointed out Minister Clayton Bartolo.

The CEO of Dar il-Mediterranean for Conferences Pierre Fenech said that all the projects that have been carried out over the last ten years in Dar il-Mediterranean for Conferences have resulted in this building being saved for the present generation and future ones. “These projects put the same entity on a firmer foundation by turning the financial situation from one of loss to profit. We thank everyone who contributed so that this could happen,” concluded Mr. Pierre Fenech.
