A report by the National Productivity Board notes the factors that are leading to economic growth

During a conference organized by the National Productivity Board, their annual report was presented which focused on productivity, among others.

The report noted that the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sectors, as well as financial services are experiencing very good growth. The report also indicated other sectors that are continuing to strengthen, including the financial sectors. The report also makes ten recommendations to ensure that the country continues to strengthen its economy, while continuing to experience strong economic growth, as has happened in recent years.

In his address during this conference, the Parliamentary Secretary for Social Dialogue Andy Ellul noted with satisfaction how much this report clearly indicates how far the Government’s policy is going in the right direction. This is against the background of significant economic growth that our country is experiencing, together with an increase in the minimum wage and other reforms.

The parliamentary secretary also noted the positive impact that Foreign Direct Investment is having in our country, the progress in the field of research and innovation, and the improvement in the educational field. He said that these positive results were also achieved thanks to the strong social dialogue that we have in our country.

“I look forward so that as a Government we continue to work together with the social partners and the National Productivity Board in order to continue to achieve positive results for our country, and also so that the economy continues to grow and in a tangible way families continue to enjoy and the Maltese and Gozitan businesses,” concluded the parliamentary secretary, while thanking all the members of the Board, the economists and other experts who worked on this extensive report, which is now before the Commission European.

The conference was led by the Chairperson of the National Productivity Board and of MCESD, Architect David Xuereb. During a discussion held at the conference, Prof. Joseph Borg, Mr. Andy Gatesy, Mrs. Ruth Debrincat, and Mr. Mark Bajada also spoke. The EMCS company, responsible for the report, presented a detailed analysis of the report and its recommendations. This presentation was made by Prof. Philip von Brockdorff, Dr. Jonathan Spiteri and Mr. Kurt Muscat.
