The Strategy for Digital Education 2024 – 2030 has been launched for public consultation

Against the background of the ever-evolving scenario of the digital world, the Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation today launched the Strategy for Digital Education 2024 – 2030 for -public consultation.

The launch was made by the Minister for Education Clifton Grima, who explained the vision of this strategy as well as its link with the new National Strategy for Education 2023-2030. In a news conference held today in the library of the Maltese College of Arts, Science and Technology, details of Eskola were also given.

“This strategy is not just a document but a commitment that guides us towards a future where digital competences are not only encouraged but incorporated in the same framework of our educational system. We recognize that the foundation for a digitally inclusive and participatory society begins in today’s classrooms. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that every individual, regardless of background or socio-economic status, has equal access to high quality digital education,” said Minister Grima.

The strategy emphasizes the urgency that both educators and students continue to be prepared to manage the complexities of the digital age responsibly. This is not just about acquiring technical skills but instilling a mindset that fosters adaptability, critical thinking, and ethical decision-making.

The strategy has four pillars: the first pillar: Nurturing Global Digital Citizens; second: Strengthening Educators for the 21st Century; the third pillar: Community Engagement and Collaboration and the fourth: Improving Digital Resources.

Through these four pillars, the aim is to empower Malta’s education system to nurture individuals who are digitally literate, adaptable and ready to meet the challenges of the future. The Digital Education Strategy is a roadmap for a more dynamic, inclusive, and digitally advanced education system for students.

In the new National Strategy for Education 2023-2030 there is clearly the work to be done, that of providing the necessary framework for the adoption of digital skills of the 21st century, especially those of digital preparation, digital well-being and digital citizenship. These are dealt with in this strategy which was launched today for consultation.

“Our vision in the educational sector is that we continue to build on our achievements, improve them and update them for today’s times,” said Minister Grima when he spoke about the transformation of what has so far been known as Teleskola and will now become known as Eskola. The transformation of Teleskola to Eskola is aimed at updating and renewing the structure of Teleskola to more closely reflect the functions of a traditional school.
