Agreement was signed between the Ministry for Gozo and Planning and the Non-Governmental Association Breeds of Origin Conservancy

The Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri presided over the signing of a cooperation agreement that was signed between the Ministry for Gozo and Planning and the Non-Governmental Association Breeds of Origin Conservancy.

Through this agreement, this organization is committed to providing technical advice on the conservation and protection of agricultural products, the market demand for them, and the nature of any resources needed to achieve them. these goals while conducting research on local products.

“The Government Experimental Farm, which falls under the responsibility of the Directorate for Rural Affairs within the Ministry for Gozo and Planning, seeks to support the local farming community in the promotion of sustainable agricultural development of Gozo through a robust and competitive agricultural sector that respects environmental and production standards, the conservation of breeds, species, subspecies and local varieties while at the same time ensuring a good standard of living for the Gozitan agricultural community,” repeated Minister Camilleri.

With this agreement the Ministry for Gozo and Planning is committed to facilitate access to any necessary resources and agreed between the parties and assist in the identification of local agricultural products that have the potential to be used to achieve the purpose of this agreement.

The Chairperson of the Breeds of Origin Conservancy Noel Buttigieg said that this organization was founded in 2016 with the main purpose of facilitating the conservation of endemic flora and fauna, native breeds, native species and subspecies, and cultivated varieties of trees and plants and ensure their preservation for economic, social, educational and cultural purposes. He ended with thanks for this cooperation and stated that he looks forward to more joint work.

Minister Clint Camilleri concluded by saying that the Government is committed to continuing to support farmers and promote sustainable agricultural development so that this sector remains strong and competitive.
