Dr. Myriam Spiteri Debono to take oath of Office of President on 4th April

The swearing-in ceremony of Myriam Spiteri Debono as President of Malta will take place on Thursday 4 April. This is during a special session of the Parliament that will be convened in the throne room in the President’s Palace, Valletta.

As President-Elect, Notary Myriam Spiteri Debono is expected to leave her private residence in Birkirkara around 9:15am. From there she leave for the Co-Cathedral of St John where a solemn mass will concelebrated by the Archbishop of Malta, Monsignor Charles J. Scicluna.

At around 11:00am, after the mass, the President-Elect together with her husband Dr. Spiteri Debono will walk to the Palace from the Co-Cathedral. Here the general public is invited to greet the President-Elect along the way from the Co-Cathedral to St. George’s Square.

Notary Myriam Spiteri Debono is expected to take the oath of office at around 12:15pm and the oath will be signed as confirmation by the Speaker Anđlu Farrugia. After the oath of office, Dr. Spiteri Debono makes her first address as President of Malta. The new President will then go out to the balcony of the Palace to greet the public gathered in St. George Square ‘s at around 12:40pm.

Dr. Spiteri Debono together with the Prime Minister Robert Abela and guests will go out in St. George’s Square where the new President is given the national salute and inspects the guard of honor for the first time as President of Malta. At the moment the salute is given, the air squadron of the Armed Forces of Malta will do a flypast.

The ceremony ends with the placing of wreaths at the feet of the War Monument and the entrance of the new President into the Palace of Sant’ Anton. The public and organizations are encouraged to raise the Maltese flag on the day of the oath of office of the President of Malta.
