The local councils with a central role to promote active seniority

The local councils have a very important role for our communities to be communities where the concept of active seniority is implemented.

Prime Minister Robert Abela expressed this thought during a visit to the Day Center in St. Paul il-Baħar.

In this centre, with joint work between the Central Government and the local council, dozens of elderly people gather every day where they take part in a number of activities, both in the center and beyond.

In a discussion with the elderly gathered in the centre, the Prime Minister Robert Abela spoke about the Government’s initiatives for the elderly to continue living in the community and stressed that for this to be possible good services are needed that reach the elderly such as services such as the Silver T and centers of this type.

It is also crucial that the Government continues to strengthen pensions and grants to the elderly. But, then, said the Prime Minister, even the local council can serve as a positive force in the organization of activities, initiatives and measures that give well-being and security to the elderly.

During the visit, the Prime Minister was accompanied by the Parliamentary Secretary for Active Aging Malcolm Paul Agius Galea and by the Mayor of San Paul il Baħar Alfred Grima.
