Sunday Big Match: Sliema Wanderers v Hamrun Spartans

Sunday’s Big Match sees runaway leaders Hamrun Spartans take on Sliema Wanderers who are third in the Premier table.

A massive ten points separate the teams and on current form, Hamrun, with 14 wins from 17 games, start as favourites to claim all three points.

Possibly a more intriguing encounter is the early afternoon clash between Marsaxlokk and unusually for them, Valletta who are struggling for points this season. City are third from bottom, a position unfamiliar to them and their supporters. Could they pull off a surprise and take points off Marsaxlokk.

If that happens, then Hibernians, who are blowing hot and cold this season, could well benefit if they manage to see off Balzan on Saturday afternoon. Only a point behind Marsaxlokk, a win would see them leap-frog M’lokk into fourth place.

And forget not Floriana, sitting comfortably in second place, take on mid-table Naxxar Lions. That could be a tricky encounter.

The Premier League at one stage looked to be done and dusted. It may well be as far as the race for the Premier crown is concerned but intriguing battles are building up among the chasing pack.
