Malta will host the men’s Water Polo Champions League Final Four games for 3 years

For the first time in history, the Malta Water Sports Association (ASA) will host the final of the last four teams (Final Four) of the men’s Water Polo Champions League for three years, in the Swimming Pool National Cheating.

Malta was chosen after the offer made by ASA met all the main requirements of the European Federation for Aquatic Sports and has the full support of the Maltese Government in collaboration with SportMalta and VisitMalta.

Minister Clifton Grima said that this is another positive result of the government’s work together with the sports associations. He reiterated that the Government committed to continue helping Maltese sport by all means so that this sector continues to grow.

“It is gratifying that our country is being chosen to hold international sporting events, testimony to the professionalism in this sector, the high quality of sports infrastructure we have and also because we are considered to have everything that is required for sporting events of this level to take place in our country,” said Minister Grima.

In this championship, which started in 1963, the best teams from all over Europe take part and it is the most prestigious competition of professional water polo clubs on the continent.

ASA President Karl Izzo said, “To organize an event like the Water Polo Champions League Final Four is an honor for a small island like Malta. We are very happy to have been given this opportunity by the European Aquatic Sports Federation to organize such a prestigious event.”

The 2023/24 men’s Champions League quarter-final season kicks off in March, and sees eight teams battle it out for a place in the last four. This sporting event will take place from 6 to 8 June at the National Swimming Pool.

The Vice President of the Ligue Européenne de Natation, Josip Varvodic said: “Malta is well known for its love of water polo and the best players from all over the world come to Malta to play in the local clubs in the championship of -summer. Without a doubt Malta will be an excellent host for the men’s Champions League Final Four.”
