More investment in medical equipment that strengthens the services provided in San Vincenzo de Paul

Minister for Health and Active Ageing Jo Etienne Abela and Parliamentary Secretary for Active Ageing Malcolm Paul Agius Galea announce MRI investment at the St Vincent de Paul Residence

In a news conference, the acquisition of a new MRI Scanner machine was announced at the Day Hospital in San Vincenzo de Paul. This was done with an investment of more than €2 million, with funds from the National Social Development Fund. These details were announced by the Minister for Health and Active Aging, Jo Etienne Abela, together with the Parliamentary Secretary for Active Aging, Malcolm Paul Agius Galea.

Minister Abela explained that during the last few years in the Day Hospital of San Vincenzo de Paul there has been a strengthening of both the infrastructure, the services provided as well as from the point of view of human resources. He explained that a number of specialists, who vary in their specialization from eye diseases to heart diseases, are offering outpatient services in this hospital.

He stressed the importance of developing the Radiology Department in this hospital into a modern and efficient one. He mentioned that apart from the investment in an MRI Scanner, an ultrasound service was recently launched, while the process of acquiring a CT Scanner is ongoing. “Although it is important that we continue to invest in advanced technology, equally crucial is the impeccable work of the radiographers and radiology specialists who run these services,” said Minister Abela.

The minister continued that all these services are benefiting the residents of San Vincenzo, and it is believed that the MRI scanner service will also be accessible to the elderly in the community.

The minister said that the new MRI Scanner will complement the service that is already provided through three MRI Scanners installed in Mater Dei Hospital. While in the General Hospital in Gozo an MRI Scanner will soon be installed. “The Government remains committed to continue investing so that our country continues to improve the health care offered,” concluded Minister Abela.

Parliamentary Secretary Malcolm Paul Agius Galea praised the work done during the last few years where the health care service provided to the elderly continued to be strengthened. He stated that work is also underway to offer more clinical services at the Day Hospital in San Vincenz de Paul.
