The second edition of AgriFair is launched – an important showcase for the agricultural sector

Minister Anton Refalo, together with Parliamentary Secretary Alicia Bugeja Said, launched the second edition of AgriFair. This event, which will be held between the 12th and 14th of April next, is expected to continue raising the level of the agriculture and fishing sector, which are so crucial for our country.

In the first edition of the Malta AgriFair there were 50 exhibitors and in three days more than 35,000 people visited the fair.

The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights Anton Refalo said how the main objective of the Malta AgriFair is to expose the quality of local food and show the skills in an innovative and interactive way and the capabilities of everyone who works in this field. This is also in the spirit of the Farm-to-Fork strategy of the European Union.

“The Malta AgriFair 2024 is not only a unique opportunity for the public to be informed and get to know better about the variety and quality of local food and drink products but also for the exhibitors to explore how they can collaborate with each other. This type of networking is also important to strengthen the competitiveness of our enterprises in today’s world,” stated Minister Refalo.

The Parliamentary Secretary for Fisheries, Aquaculture and Animal Rights Alicia Bugeja Said emphasized how the AgriFair can serve as a bridge between Maltese producers and consumers who daily look for local production of higher quality.

“In this spirit of collaboration, knowledge and work, we want to continue to spur together the sector of agriculture, farming, fishing and aquaculture. The AgriFair will be a national celebration of everything that involves food production from local products. At the same time, we continue to ensure the economic, social and environmental sustainability of our country for future generations,” said Parliamentary Secretary Bugeja Said.

The Parliamentary Secretary also mentioned how thanks to the work of the Government which promotes and helps local production, the total sale of fish in our country will reach a total of €13 million. “Such figures continue to fill us with courage and determination to continue investing in these sectors. We must continue to invest in learning systems and practices that go hand in hand with the latest scientific and technological trends, in order to ensure that the food chain remains a sustainable one, while exploiting the best resources that our country offers in these -sectors for the good of all the people,” concluded the Parliamentary Secretary Bugeja Said.

Minister Anton Refalo concluded by delivering a message to large and small enterprises, individuals and even NGOs and to all those who work in this sector, to be part of AgriFair 2024, so that once again  this fair will be as successful as the first edition.
