The bilingual book “The story of Molly” was launched, an initiative of the Office of the Commissioner for Animal Protection, which will be distributed in all primary schools and is aimed at raising awareness about the protection of animals among the students.
The book was launched by the Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation Clifton Grima and the Parliamentary Secretary for Fisheries, Aquaculture and Animal Rights Alicia Bugeja Said.
The book is aimed at students in primary schools with the aim of increasing knowledge and raising more awareness about the importance of animal adoption, and the work done by the Animal Welfare Department to protect animals.
Minister Clifton Grima said that this is another book that is being distributed in schools, which apart from continuing to nurture children in the importance of reading, is linked to an important subject, that of animal protection. “Reading is important and is the basis for a complete education, therefore literacy is being given importance in the new National Strategy for Education which is currently in the last phase of consultation before it is implemented,” explained Minister Clifton Grimace.
Parliamentary Secretary Alicia Bugeja Said explained that this book will also find its place in various libraries around Malta and Gozo. She claimed that the animal welfare sector is closely linked to education and public awareness. She said that with the help of the public, the Government’s vision for this sector will continue to be fulfilled.
“Education is also the key to social progress and through these books they will help us care more about our animals and those around us,” concluded Parliamentary Secretary Bugeja Said.
