A new electric vehicle for the residents of Lija

Through LESA funds, an electric vehicle was purchased by the Local Council of Lija. This vehicle will be used by the residents and the elderly of Lija for their daily needs, including medical appointments at the hospital and polyclinic. LESA released the sum of €25,000 for this vehicle.

The Minister for the Interior, Security, Reforms and Equality Byron Camilleri said that LESA continues to be instrumental in supporting our communities. In fact, the locality of Lija is one of the many localities that applied for LESA funds, which funds come from the summonses. “LESA is continuing to invest in various projects from which the community benefits. In partnership with the Local Council of Ħal Lija, this electric van was purchased, which does not pollute the environment, which will provide a service to the elderly and other people and will take them to various essential places including to attend medical appointments. There will continue to be that commitment to keep investing in the community in partnership with various local councils”, said Minister Camilleri.

The Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government Alison Zerafa Civelli praised the local council for recognizing the need for more accessibility for the residents around Ħal Lija and making good use of these additional funds in order to address this need. “This service was provided for the first time in the locality of Bormla when I was mayor and it is gratifying for me to see this service being provided in more localities, because it gives residents easy access to the services daily necessities”, stressed the Parliamentary Secretary Zerafa Civelli.

The Mayor of Lija, Anthony Dalli, said that this is an investment by the local council in partnership with the Department of Local Councils and LESA. “This is another instrument to bring our seniors to the Mater Dei Hospital, the Birkirkara clinic and the San Luqa Hospital. These trips will be made with the help of the council employees who will take these elderly people to their work”, concluded Mayor Dalli.
