An agreement was signed between the Maltese Tourism Authority and The Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) through which the two mentioned parties will start working closer together in favor of sustainable practices when it comes to the hospitality industry .
Among the actions related to sustainability, a process will begin through which eco-certification labels will be introduced in hotels and other establishments that are linked to tourism. This will be done through the Green Key program which has already certified around 4,440 hotels in 60 different countries around the world.
In response to this agreement, the Minister for Tourism Clayton Bartolo pointed out that in light of the fact that our country is recording the best tourist results in history, this is the opportune moment for the tourist product to start looking at quality à higher and sustainable practices as the order of the day. “Now, that tourism in our country has recovered, we want to ensure that we make the next leap when it comes to service among the entire spectrum of the hospitality industry à . We must continue to take tangible decisions that will really lead us to sustainable tourism that will be widespread throughout the year”, stressed the Minister for Tourism Clayton Bartolo.
