In Brussels, Prime Minister Robert Abela attended and addressed a summit between the Leaders of the Member States of the European Union and of the Western Balkans during which he emphasized the need for unity and solidarity between the countries members, in light of the geo-political context. He said that without any doubt, the future of the Western Balkans is in the European Union.

Among the topics discussed during this summit was how the partners of the Western Balkans can be gradually integrated into the European Union and how the impact of the war in Ukraine will be reduced. on the region.

He said that one year after the Leaders of the Member States and of the Western Balkans met in Tirana, Albania, where an agreement was reached on the reduction in roaming charges between European countries and the Balkans West, now is the time to continue to incentivize the necessary reforms for these countries to continue their preparations to join the Union in the future.

“At the center of all this are the people, the European citizens and those of the Western Balkans, who have much to gain from this integration”, stressed Prime Minister Robert Abela. In fact, at the end of the summit a declaration was signed through which the six countries of the Western Balkans undertake to follow it. The declaration sees among others that there will be a political and strategic commitment, a growth plan that leads to integration, as well as a Campus of the College of Europe in Tirana that will serve as an opportunity for European students to study in Western Balkans.

The declaration is the basis on which the European Union and the Western Balkans build their policy, aimed at improving the quality of people’s lives.
