Agreement signed for further investment in technological devices for visually impaired people

An agreement was signed today between the Foundation for Access to Information Technology (FITA) and the Malta Trust Foundation. This agreement aims to provide more investment for modern technological devices through which visually impaired people, whether children, young people or adults, have the facility to train and improve their quality of life.

The signing of the agreement took place in the presence of the Minister Julia Farrugia Portelli, the Parliamentary Secretary Keith Azzopardi Tanti, and the Chairperson of the Malta Trust Foundation Marie Louise Coleiro Preca.

The Minister for Inclusion, Volunteering and Consumer Rights Julia Farrugia Portelli stressed that this agreement embraces three important principles: that Maltese society must continue to embrace the rights of inclusion, of equality , and of independence. “We can never have inclusion if we don’t offer a shoulder in the most needed moments,” insisted Minister Farrugia Portelli, while repeating that this agreement is being signed right during the international week of awareness about disability and on the eve of international volunteering day.

The Parliamentary Secretary for Youth, Research and Innovation Keith Azzopardi Tanti also spoke about the importance of an agreement of this type with the ultimate goal of improving the quality of people’s lives.

“FITA has been working for the last few years with various entities, public and private associations, and other persons in order to provide the best service to vulnerable or disabled people.” He congratulated FITA and the Malta Trust Foundation for this collaboration and encouraged more organizations or persons to make more use of the services offered by FITA for the accessibility of information technology.

For her part, the Chairperson of the Malta Trust Foundation, President Emeritus Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca stressed that “Collaboration is necessary, because when we work together, the impact and results will be much stronger and sustainable, for people in need.”

The CEO of FITA Carlo Stivala reiterated that through this agreement they will be offering the necessary training on innovative equipment for vulnerable or disabled people.
