Malta Just: Investment in favor of the elderly

Another project is completed with an investment of €1 million which is seeing, once again, an improvement in the quality of life of the elderly in San Vincenzo, announced the Minister for Active Aging Jo Etienne Abela during a conference of news.

With this project, the beds in San Vincenzo now all work with electricity and are much more comfortable, safe and efficient for the elderly who have mobility problems. Minister Jo Etienne Abela explained that this project continues to show the improvement in the quality of life they are offering to the elderly. Through these beds, he will not only be helping the elderly in their mobility, but will also help professionals in their daily work.

Minister Abela also spoke about the measures that the government presented in Budget 2024. “The elderly were at the center of another healthy and socialist budget. The elderly saw the highest increase in history in pensions, of €15 per week, which will continue to help them financially in their lives,” repeated Minister Abela. He went on to explain that in terms of investment for the elderly in the community, they will continue to offer more services and measures to help the elderly who still live in their homes, among which they will continue to improve the Carer at Home scheme where they will they help elderly people who still live in the community and need assistance.

The government will be increasing this measure by another €1,000 to €8,000 per year. Minister Abela also mentioned that in San Vincenzo, which is the largest residence we have in our country, the government will continue to invest to ensure that this residence continues to have the highest level of quality. He explained that renovation work will continue in the halls. He also mentioned that modernization work will be carried out in the St Francis 1 and 2 halls with an investment reaching €1.6 million. This renovation will continue to improve the lives of the residents who are in these wards. He went on to say that in the coming months they will continue the process of growth in the medical service offered in San Vincenzo.

The second floor will be completed which will see the development of the pharmacy and they will continue to invest in medical equipment. This will continue to offer the highest quality care that residents receive in San Vincenzo itself and they will also be investing in a number of new clinics that will also offer care to the people who still live in the community. The minister also mentioned the project on which works have already started, that of the Therapeutic Farm and Recreation Centre. “These investments continue to show the work that the government is carrying out in the sector of the elderly, and it shows how much the elderly are at the center of our work to continue to be given the highest possible service”, concluded Minister Jo Etienne Abela.
