Imgarr Street project, Nadur, a main artery with a length of 1km inaugurated

The Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri officially inaugurated the project of Triq l-Imgarr, Nadur, a main artery with a length of one kilometer that was built from the ground up with a complex structure due to the clay terrain in which it is located. The works on this road required specialized structures of retaining walls as well as a system of piles and columns so that the road could be built on a stable base in the clay.

This project included the rebuilding of the road, added road safety systems to reduce the risk of accidents, the rebuilding of the retaining walls and rubble wall and facilities other so that the necessary services pass under the road.

Minister Camilleri reminded that this was not the only road that was built along this project, as Sant’Antnin road was also built, with a length of 800 meters, which leads from Mġarr to the new junction that was built and which connects Qala, Nadur and Għajnsielem and Triq i-Zewwieqa was also built with a length of 1.2 kilometers which served as an alternative road while the works were being carried out on Triq l’Mġarr.

In these roads, all the water and drainage services that were present were changed and long stretches of service culverts were built, a new system of stormwater culverts was also built to accommodate a volume of rainwater that descends in Ghajnsielem from Qala and Nadur. “Works are currently underway on two other roads in the vicinity of Triq it-28 ta April il-Qala as well as Triq il-Ďamri in Għajnsielem. Therefore, through this complex project we are giving new links from Mġarr to the eastern side of the island. With all these projects, more than 3.5km of main roads and distributors will have been rebuilt on this side of the island,” stated the Minister.

Minister Camilleri concluded by saying that in the coming weeks more reconstruction of important roads will be announced in order to further strengthen the infrastructure on the island of Gozitan.
