In a message sent by Prime Minister Robert Abela, he announced that the national minimum wage will be increased.
“We appointed the ‘Low Wage Commission’ which brought together the social partners together with representatives of the Government to propose how the increase should be given and as a Government we will take these recommendations and implement them,” claimed the Prime Minister
as he explained how he is satisfied that an agreement has been sealed to increase the minimum wage every year for the next four years apart from the annual increases that are given with COLA.
Prime Minister Abela stressed that the country needs to continue moving forward economically and the Government will continue to help industry and businesses but equally will continue to invest in workers. The Prime Minister meant the step of another election promise fulfilled to increase the wages and income of the workers and said that in the Budget that the Government will present next Monday, it will continue to take more investment initiatives in people.
