The Minister of Justice Jonathan Attard attended and participated in the Council of Ministers of Justice that met in Luxembourg. The agenda of this council included several important themes, including the core for digital justice and human rights, Russia’s aggression on Ukraine and a discussion on a directive that proposes the harmonization of number of insolvency aspects.
“The provisions on revocation actions are beneficial to insolvency proceedings as they contribute to the goal of higher asset recovery. Therefore, in general, Malta supports the general objectives of this proposed directive. In fact, our Companies Act already contains provisions through which it deals with various actions that are being proposed,” repeated Minister Attard.
This council of ministers was also an opportunity for the member states to discuss a common challenge among several countries, the one related to the work being done to strengthen the efficiency and quality of justice. Here Minister Attard spoke about the reforms and the unprecedented investment that our country is carrying out. He mentioned among others the investment in the digital field, with funds from the Recovery and Resilience Fund, with the intention of implementing the National Digital Strategy in Justice.
He also referred to strengthening the judiciary, the prosecution and the workers in the courts, where today we have the largest number of people serving in the sector. In the margins of this council, Minister Attard also had a bilateral meeting with the German Secretary of State Angelika Schlunck, where a number of themes of interest and cooperation between the two countries were discussed.
