In the island of villages that we want to make from Gozo, young people have a central role. We want them to be the ones to reap the increasing opportunities that this island is offering, so we will continue to invest in you, in your education.

This was the message of Prime Minister Robert Abela during a visit he made to the sixth form of Gozo Sir M.A. Refalo. An educational institution that, while preparing around 400 students to continue their tertiary education in an environment that has been renovated in recent years, through informal learning opportunities, is also strengthening their skills and preparing them for the future . In fact, the training it is offering includes, among others, skills related to entrepreneurship, public speaking and interviewing skills.

In a discussion he had with some of the students, the Prime Minister pointed out that we cannot talk about the implementation of the vision for Gozo if we do not include the young people, who have a role in today’s Gozo to prepare the Gozo of ‘ tomorrow. He encouraged them to continue to come forward with more ideas of what Gozo wants and to continue to challenge the status quo and be the ones who make the policy for Gozo.

The Prime Minister explained that the Government’s commitment to Gozo goes beyond words, the results speak for themselves, including the fact that in ten years we have doubled the number of workers with the private sector in Gozo itself. Therefore, it is an obligation to ensure that they receive the best education, and ensure an educational system that is among the best. With the measures and decisions we are taking, including the one that saw us increase the stipend for those sectors that need it the most, they reflect this. In fact, the Gozo Region has the highest rate of graduates, almost double the national average. Therefore, this emphasis on education explains why quality careers have increased in Gozo in recent years. With the amount of those working in professional services, today it is five times more than what it was ten years ago. Confirmation that an excellent education leads to better careers for Gozo people.
