While he was speaking at an event to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of BIETA, the association of factory owners in Bulebel, the Minister for the Economy, European Funds and Lands Silvio Schembri said that BIETA is a success story that should be repeated.
“BIETA is a successful experiment, a success story, so much so that I gave the direction to INDIS so that the model is operated in the same way in the other industrial area of our country,” said Minister Silvio Schembri. BIETA represents the 80 factories that are in the industrial area of Bulebel, an area that today has grown to 600,000 square meters and in which various sectors operate from pharmaceuticals, to cosmetics, catering, among others, and that offers employment to the hundreds of workers.
Minister Schembri said that BIETA’s success is linked to the economic success of our country. He recalled how the report of the International Monetary Fund published earlier this week confirmed that the Maltese economy this year will grow at a rate of five and a half times the European average. “Without a doubt that this result is the result of the decisions we took as Government, among them on the subsidy of electricity and water bills. It is certain that without those decisions, some of the factories that are here today celebrating this success, would have found it very difficult to remain viable and sustainable,” concluded Minister Schembri.
Dr. Jean Pierre Attard, CEO of INDIS Malta, thanked BIETA for the valuable work it does in Bulebel and for the continuous cooperation with INDIS. “Maintaining an industrial zone creates several challenges, but together we will find the solution for them,” repeated Dr. Attard.
Brian Muscat, Chairperson of BIETA, spoke on the history of this association and how they got here and the daily work they carry out. Mr. Muscat thanked INDIS and the Ministry of Economy for the support they give to the association and the industry.
