Three weeks before the 2024 Budget is presented, Prime Minister Robert Abela held the first of a series of consultation meetings on the 2024 Budget. During a meeting with the Chamber of Commerce in Castille, Prime Minister Abela showed the Government’s commitment that it will continue to take the necessary decisions. He stressed that just as the necessary decisions were taken regarding the national airline, we will continue to take other important decisions in the interest of Malta.

He referred to the economic growth of our country, with Malta continuing to be an exception among the economies of European countries. He said that this economic rhythm must be maintained so that everyone can benefit from this growth. “We can talk about an economic transition because we have a growing economy. There we also have to take a number of decisions, which we will discuss today, in the coming weeks and months”.

He insisted that decisions cannot be made without discussion. He made reference to the recent decision on the change in stipends. A reform spread over a period of three years that will see the strengthening of stipends with the aim of more students choosing subjects that lead them to a career. He stressed that everyone has an opinion, but ultimately a decision must be made, and the decision was made.

Here he encouraged an open discussion with representatives of the Chamber of Commerce. Dr Abela said that the starting point remains one, the belief in the potential of Malta and its people. He concluded by saying that with discussion and the making of decisions at the right time, the Maltese and the Gozitians of today and tomorrow will enjoy.
