Minister Ian Borg meets with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of India, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, in New Delhi

“The significant opportunities in the field of trade between the two countries should be harnessed in the best possible way for the benefit of both countries,” stated Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade Ian Borg, during a bilateral meeting with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of India, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, in New Delhi, India.

Currently, there are 112 companies from India operating in our country, particularly in the pharmaceutical sector. Throughout the discussion, both sides expressed the need to explore further opportunities, primarily in the financial sector.

Minister Ian Borg mentioned that since 2024 will mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malta and India, it would be fitting for both governments to commit to strengthening this relationship and fostering more cooperation across various sectors.

Discussions were also held regarding the relations between the European Union and India, as well as potential cooperation on a multilateral basis, also in light of Malta’s seat on the United Nations Security Council taking place.

During his visit to India, Minister Borg met with the Confederation of Indian Industries to further discuss the potential for more business in our country and how Maltese companies can expand and grow their operations beyond our shores.

Minister Borg also had the opportunity to meet with the Honorary Consuls of Malta in India, who are spread across the country, and expressed gratitude for the valuable and significant work they do for our country on a daily basis.

He also met with Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture Meenakshi Lekhi and Sister Marcelle Buttigieg, who has been engaged in charitable work in this country for many years.
