No favours for “big fish” in benefits fraud

Prime Minister Robert Abela in Marsaslokk

There will be no special treatment for anyone involved in benefits fraud.

A strong message from Prime Minister Robert Abela who was taking part in an open air question and answer session in Marsaslokk on Sunday evening.

Recent media reports alleged that a former Labour MP was involved in a benefits fraud. The prime minister refuted suggestions of any form of special treatment for anyone involved saying that in fact it was his government that had informed the police of suspected irregularities.

Questioned about the number of foreign workers in Malta, Robert Abela said foreign workers are essential for sectors such as health, certain expertise, and “humble” jobs Maltese no longer want to do.
