The regeneration project of the Parish Square in Mellieħa is completed

The regeneration project of the Parish Square in Mellieħa has been completed. This investment of €1.9 million co-financed by the Malta Tourism Authority and Infrastructure Malta, included new paving, more modern water, electricity and drainage services systems as well as the installation of ‘ new planters.

This project was inaugurated by the Minister for Tourism Clayton Bartolo and the Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects Aaron Farrugia in the presence of the Mellieħa Local Council, the Chief Executive of the Authority Malta Tourism Authority Carlo Micallef, the Chairman of the Malta Tourism Authority Gavin Gulia, the Executive Director of Infrastructure Malta Raphael Abdilla and the Mellihiin associations.

The Minister for Tourism Clayton Bartolo pointed out how the regeneration of the Mellieħa Parish Square is the definition of the quality we want in our country’s tourist product. “This is the biggest capital investment made in Mellieħa in recent years. Today we have a nicer, modern and more accessible square for everyone who visits this locality. This project forms part of the regeneration of the tourist areas from the national strategy for tourism for the next ten years,” continued Minister Clayton Bartolo.

The Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects Aaron Farrugia praised the work of Infrastructure Malta in this project and explained how through this work, this square was once again given back to – the people and the community of Mellieħa. “This is a project that gives priority to those who frequent this area every day on foot, whether residents or tourists and builds perfectly on the Government’s wider vision of Infrastructure for the people. We also made sure that the material we used to do the work with would be one that respects the historical heritage of this square. In the time to come, people should expect more projects of this nature that continue to give priority to the people,” stated Minister Farrugia.
